Girl of seven found murdered

Posted by Criminal Profiling Staff on: Friday 27 January 2006

A 7-year-old Brooklyn girl was bound and held captive in her home before being bludgeoned by her step father, according to police. The man was charged with murder and sexual abuse. The child's mother will face charges of manslaughter and reckless endangerment.

The body of Nixzmary Brown was found on Wednesday in what police describe as a torture chamber. The child had been tied to a chair by the ankles and beaten. The Medical Examiner’s office determined Brown had been a victim of abuse for an extended period of time and had died from a brain hemorrhage caused by a severe blow to the head.

The child's mother, Nixaliz Santiago, and stepfather, Caesar Rodriguez were arrested Wednesday night. Both pleaded not guilty to the charges against them.

Five other children belonging to Santiago have been placed in protective custody.

At the time of the Brown's death, the Administration for Children's Services were investigating reports of abuse in the home.

I agree mallorie, the question to ask is why? why it had to happen? This case is not an iscolated one . I wish that there were resources to find these people and bring them to justice. There seems to be an epedimic of predators that are turned loosed on children . The scary thing is that they don't look like "joe" criminal , they look like normal citizens.

This very thing happens every day! Why it has to happen at all, really disturbs me. Why children? Our future of tomorrow. They are the most forgiving. I can only imagine the confusion that they must feel! Asking themselves..."why is this happening to me, what have I done wrong?" The sad part is, those that are out there doing this very thing, are using manipulation and fear to keep their little "victims" quiet.

I cannot believe the stories I hear. Why and how could anyone harm another living thing. I don't understand. Children are so inocent. They have unconditional love. I was a victom of abuse. I can't give my children a spanking. I still have alot of problems because of my abuse. I don't think these people that do these things should live any longer than their sentence. Why should they live when they have taken a inocent life. My heart cries for the little ones.

I just do not understand how a mother could allow such attrocities to happen to her own flesh and blood. Women like this should not be allowed to have children. I believe that any time a child's life is cut short at the hands of someone else, the perpetrator should have his or her life cut short as well. They do not deserve to live, even if it is in prison, as we all know life in prison is not as hard as it once was.

There are so many abuses and injustices in our society you have to wonder how and why so many occur. We have to go back to the beginning and try to rationalize why these people behave in the mannerisms that they do and why is so much money spent on political reforms while innocent victims are preyed upon. I have seen the justice system go both ways in regards to these perpetrators, many times after serving there sentences they are released only for another innocent to fall prey to thier senseless acts and some are put on death row for years and years while a minute few end up with
the death penalty. Everyday of our lives we will continue to hear the horrors of what some individuals inflict on others and when is it going to end. Children seem to be the easiest targets, there innocence, and there weakness seem to attract a host of abusers, murdererous tormentors and the like and how truly sad it is when the perpetrators are family members or as in this case the mothers boyfriend. Women don't seem to understand the importance of protecting there children and unfortunately many fail to put there children first. Our future depends on how we raise and relate to our children today, what message are we teaching them when they are put through such horrors as children that they grow up only to inflict the same pain or worse on another. Society needs to wake up, and society needs to see that these behaviors are not acceptable and won't be tolerated. What happens behind closed doors is a scary thing, social service representatives are underpaid and overworked, and our children and other innocent victims are left to pay the price at the hands of these cruel and unstable people.

This is just a very horrible incident! I just hope they captured the culprit and put him behind bars where he should rot to death!
