The program began operating in July 1993. The attorney general appoints a Victims' Compensation Board consisting of three members: one physician, one attorney, and one with experience providing victim services.

FUNDING
The program receives $25 for felonies and $10 for misdemeanors. The program also receives an annual VOCA grant.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
Reporting period: 5 days
Filing period: 1 year or 60 days of discovery of injury or compensable loss, whichever is later
Exceptions: Good cause, with specific exception for child victims
PROCEDURES
Program director makes recommendations to the board, which makes decision by unanimous vote of those present (at least 2 members must be present). Appeals: Applicant may request a denovo hearing before the full board within 30 days of the board's initial decision. An appeal may be taken to the superior court.
BENEFITS
Maximum award: $7,500
Compensable Costs (with limits)
Medical expenses: 75% of charges or of balance after insurance payments
Mental health counseling
Lost wages/support
Funerals: $2,000, plus reasonable related costs
