A bounty has been placed on the head of a possible Serial Killer.
With over thirty drug-addicted prostitutes missing and presumed murdered, police in Vancouver, Canada are faced with a daunting task: try and find these women or arrest who took them away. To give them more help, Canadian officials plan to pony up $100,000 to help their cause.
But finding a killer who preys on this type of target means getting inside a world that is dark and unforgiving. Vancouver's Eastside is the skid row of this seemingly picture-perfect city. Women of the evening roam the streets searching for their next high -- many believe their life depends on common street drugs leading them on mind-numbing trips. They pay for their dope-induced journey with their bodies and sometimes with their lives. Now the number of possible victims has risen above 30, and law enforcement is stepping-up their efforts to find the reason why . . . or the person responsible.
The Vancouver Police Department and the Ministry of Attorney General have authorized a reward of up to $100,000 Canadian dollars for information leading to the arrest and conviction of whomever is responsible for these missing women.
The women range in age from 19 to 46, each described on their missing person's poster as ''a known drug user and sex-trade worker''. Community activists and the remaining prostitutes think that there is a serial killer on the loose, but police won't go that far -- they won't put that fear in the hearts of the community . . . yet.
When the Vancouver Police Department first looked at these disappearances, they were criticized by Eastside residents. The locals said that it was the type of people that were disappearing that made the cops sit back and not make a move earlier. In fact, prostitutes have been disappearing off the streets of Vancouver since the early 1980's.
But now, with a task force assigned for the sole purpose of finding answers to these disappearances, the Vancouver Police Department is saying that they do care and they're putting cash down to prove it.

Vancouver Police are looking for the killer or killers of 30 or more prostitutes missing from a four block corridor of Vancouver's downtown Eastside.
It all began in the early 1980's – one-by-one prostitutes began disappearing. In total, more than 30 prostitutes have disappeared, and police aren't sure who is responsible. Police have no crime scenes and no bodies. But, they do have a clue. Police want to talk to an anonymous caller who left a message on a toll free hot line in July 1998. In the recording, the caller warns police and the friends of victims to "stop searching because Sarah (one of the victims) is dead." The caller also said that prostitutes will keep being killed, "one every Friday night." Police say the call may be a hoax, and there is nothing backing up the Friday night murder claim.
Local Eastside residence and the prostitutes left on the streets are also looking out for a mysterious brown van, they claim, prowls the area on weekends. They say the driver of the van may hold clues to solving this case.
